# Yellowstone gRPC methods

Yellowstone gRPC (Dragon's Mouth): Subscribe streams accounts, transactions, slots, blocks, entries, and block footers; SubscribeDeshred and unary calls.

The `Subscribe` stream delivers these update types in one connection, except Deshred transactions, which arrive on the separate `SubscribeDeshred` stream:

| Update                    | What it streams                                                                                                                                    |
| ------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Account updates           | Account writes as they happen.                                                                                                                     |
| Transaction updates       | Transactions as they are processed.                                                                                                                |
| Transaction status        | Lightweight transaction-status notifications.                                                                                                      |
| Slot updates              | Slot progression.                                                                                                                                  |
| Block updates             | Full blocks.                                                                                                                                       |
| Block metadata            | Block headers without transactions.                                                                                                                |
| Entry updates             | Ledger entries.                                                                                                                                    |
| Block footers             | Alpenglow block footers, sent once a block is complete, just before its `BlockMeta`. Only produced where Alpenglow is active.                      |
| Deshred Transactions gRPC | Transactions reconstructed from shreds pre-execution. See [SubscribeDeshred](/solana/rpc-methods/real-time-streaming/yellowstone-grpc/deshred.md). |

Alongside the stream, a set of [unary calls](/solana/rpc-methods/real-time-streaming/yellowstone-grpc/unary-calls.md) answer one-shot requests with no open stream.

## Calling it with grpcurl

The service does not offer gRPC server reflection, so [grpcurl](https://github.com/fullstorydev/grpcurl) needs the proto files. Download `geyser.proto` and `solana-storage.proto` from the latest [yellowstone-grpc release](https://github.com/rpcpool/yellowstone-grpc/releases) (they are also in the repository's [`yellowstone-grpc-proto/proto`](https://github.com/rpcpool/yellowstone-grpc/tree/master/yellowstone-grpc-proto/proto) folder) into one folder. Every grpcurl example in this section passes that folder as `-import-path <proto-dir>`, with `-proto geyser.proto`.
