# eth\_subscribe

Open a push subscription over a WebSocket connection. Monad adds monadNewHeads and monadLogs streams that also report each block's commit state.

Open a push subscription over a WebSocket connection (`wss://`). Monad supports the standard `newHeads` and `logs` subscriptions, plus two Monad extensions that also report each block's commit state. All four publish a block when it is proposed, before it is finalized.

## Request

  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "id": 1,
  "method": "eth_subscribe",
  "params": [
    "newHeads"
  ]
}

## Subscription types

| Type            | Description                                                                                                                                                                                                               |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `newHeads` | New block headers, published once per block when the block is proposed. |
| `logs` | Logs matching a filter object passed as the second parameter, published when the block is proposed. |
| `monadNewHeads` | The same headers with `blockId` and `commitState` fields. A block is published again each time its `commitState` advances to `Voted`, `Finalized`, or `Verified`. A block can go from `Proposed` straight to `Finalized`. |
| `monadLogs` | The same logs with `blockId` and `commitState` fields, published again each time the block's `commitState` advances. |

A proposed block can still be abandoned. If you need finality, subscribe to `monadNewHeads` or `monadLogs` and wait for `commitState` `Finalized`.

## Not supported

Monad does not support the `newPendingTransactions` or `syncing` subscriptions, nor EIP-4844 blob transactions.
