# debug\_traceBlockByNumber

Replay a block by number or tag and return execution traces using the given tracer.

## Parameters

| Parameter      | Type   | Required | Description                                                                                                                                 |
| -------------- | ------ | -------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `block_number` | string | Yes      | Block number (hex) or tag: `latest`, `safe`, `finalized`, `pending`.                                                                        |
| `tracer`       | object | No       | Tracer configuration: `tracer` (string) and optional `tracerConfig` (object). Defaults to `callTracer`; `prestateTracer` is also supported. |

## Response

With `callTracer`, an array with one entry per transaction in the block: its hash and its call frame.
